Pilot tucked hood into jacket before flight but wind pulled it loose during flight. Hood was sucked into airbox choking the engine. Pilot unaware of cause until reviewing 360 camera footage after safe landing.
Preflight Error
Maximum — exactly determined
This was the pilot's first flight with a 360 camera. Before takeoff, the pilot tucked their jacket hood into the jacket. During flight, the wind slowly pulled the hood back out without the pilot feeling it. The loose hood was then sucked into the airbox, choking it and causing the motor to die. The pilot had zero clue why the motor died when landing and only discovered the cause after checking the 360 camera footage. The hood also came dangerously close to the propeller. The pilot managed to land safely without power.
The hood of the pilot's jacket came loose during flight (despite being tucked in before takeoff) and was sucked into the airbox, blocking airflow and causing engine failure. This was a preflight error - the hood should have been better secured or the jacket removed/changed.

Lucky it didn Reddit post (2 Feb 2026): This incident happened a year or two ago and I was just reminded of it. This was my first flight with a 360 camera, and it's the only reason that I found out why my motor died. I had zero clue when I landed until I checked the footage. For reference, I did tuck my hood in before the flight and didn't think much of it. But the wind slowly pulled it back out and I didn't feel it. I doubt that if my hood contacted the prop it would catch or choke me out, but the idea of that is very uncomfortable and watching the video back the first time spooked me seeing it get that close (partly because it's a nice jacket, partly because it's a nice neck.) I often wonder what would have most likely happened if it did contact though?
